Professional service in alternative medicine and homeopathic medicine for animals
The
Alternative Veterinary Medicine Centre offers a referral or second opinion service, for any species of animal and for any
problem, using homeopathic treatment, acupuncture treatment, herbal treatment, chiropractic treatment and other natural medicine
options. Dogs and cats are usually seen at our premises while horses are usually seen at their homes. However, home visits
can also be arranged for dogs and cats. We concentrate on stimulating and assisting the body's own healing
capability, removing obstacles to healing and enhancing welfare. We do not specialise in any particular species, disease or
organ system and we use a wide range of natural holistic therapies. We also offer on-line video consultations, in support of local veterinary practices, for those who are too distant to travel, who live abroad or who cannot travel
to us for other reasons. This service is available for horses, ponies, dogs, cats and other species.

The AVMC is actively involved in research (clinical research and trial work,
NOT laboratory animal experimentation), teaching, education in general, authorship and in animal welfare projects.
Origins of the AVMC
Christopher Day, homeopathic vet and holistic vet, founded the AVMC
in 1987, and it was possibly the first dedicated alternative medicine veterinary practice (holistic) in the UK. However,
he had been using homeopathy in practice, since 1972 and on himself for many years before that.
Chinham House was
his family home, a country veterinary practice run by his parents, both of whom were vets. However, as contemporary veterinary
medicine developed along less traditional lines, with differing values, Mr Day found that he was unable to continue running
the business, which had meanwhile grown to a thriving five-man practice with four centres. He therefore set out on his own,
on the specialist homeopathic, alternative and holistic route, with a more traditional view of veterinary service, which
was the nature of his own work in the practice.
The premises is a tradtional farm house and smallholding, on which
no pesticides, agro-chemicals etc. are used. It has kept its old-style character and is run on organic management principles
and accommodates in excess of 2 acres of wildlife reserve.

Our Philosophy
We strongly believe in the need for deep respect for Nature, for animals and for animal life. We strive to maintain
activities which do not adversely affect the lives of animals or their environment and to avoid those that might. We have
a positive environmental policy and have done so from the outset. We do not support vivisection or animal experimentation.
